Israeli security forces kill one Palestinian Islamist, arrest another, belonging to cell believed responsible for terror attack

Israeli security forces, in a joint operation of Israel’s counter terrorist units of the YAMAM and SHABAQ, raided the West Bank city of Jenin last night in pursuit of the gunmen believed to be responsible for the shooting attack last week in the northern West Bank, in which Rabbi Raziel Shevah was shot dead. Israeli police spokesman Micky Rosenfeld told TV7 that one of the three Palestinian suspects was killed in the exchanges of fire, while another was arrested. Two Israeli security personnel also sustained injuries in the incident and were transferred to a medical facility for further treatment. Rosenfeld said, ; “Israeli police, border police, “YAMAM” (SWAT), “SHABAQ” (Security services) counter terrorism operation took place overnight in Jenin. We searched for the terrorists that carried out the murder of the rabbi from Judea and Samaria (West Bank) that was murdered on the 9th of January, Rabbi Raziel (Shevah). The terrorists were found, and a gun battle took place overnight. As a result, shots were fired at the units who responded at the scene. One of our officers was injured seriously. A second officer was injured lightly and taken to hospital. We confirmed one of the terrorists was shot and killed at the scene, a second terrorist was arrested and the scene. And the operation continued throughout the night,” the Israeli police spokesman said following the operation.

Palestinian sources confirmed the report to TV7, indicating that the cell belonged to the Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades, the military wing of the Islamist Hamas organization, yet refused to comment on whether the cell was responsible for the shooting attack last week, in which Rabbi Raziel Shevah was killed.
