While the Palestinian diplomat refused to reveal whether the victim had an affiliation to any militant organizations; the Islamist Hamas organization released a statement noting that one of its members had been assassinated in Malaysia, with Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh laying the blame on Israel’s Mossad intelligence agency.” In response to a TV7 inquiry, an Malaysian official revealed that “al-Batsh was active in pro-Palestinian non-governmental organizations,” further describing him as “an expert in electrical engineering and rocket-building.” While the university of Kaula Lumpur identified al-Batsh as its lecturer, specializing in power engineering; intelligence reports have labeled Fadi al-Batsh as the leader of an initiative to upgrade Hamas’ weapons, including the improvement of its rockets’ precision. The reports further noted that al-Batsh received his orders from Hamas’ headquarters in Turkey.
