Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu praised the appointment of Mike Pompeo. In a statement Netanyahu’s office released, the Prime Minister said, “During my meetings with Pompeo I was very impressed with his abilities and experience. I believe that in his role as Secretary of State we will also work very well together.” The positive response by the Prime Minister echoes an earlier statement a senior Israeli official told TV7 that the former CIA director Pompeo is considered to be more aligned with Israel’s position, as opposed to his predecessor Tillerson, in which the Islamic Republic of Iran is the greatest threat across the Middle East that must be confronted, including its aspirations to attain nuclear weapon capabilities.
