President Abbas agrees to meet PM Netanyahu

The French newspaper ‘Le Figaro’ reported that Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas had accepted France’s proposal to meet with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in Paris after an international peace conference that is scheduled to be held in France in about two weeks.

The newspaper stated, citing both French and Palestinian sources, that Israel had not yet replied to the proposal. The report also noted that France wished to convene a peace conference at the level of foreign ministers, with representatives from some 50 countries and institutions, in a format similar to an international conference the was held in Paris some six months ago.

Representatives from Israel and the Palestinian Authority will not be invited to the upcoming conference, but Netanyahu and Abbas are expected to be invited after the conference to receive an update regarding its results. Diplomatic sources in Paris told TV7 that France is expected to present a draft resolution that will call to resolve the decades-old-conflict between Israel and the Palestinians, based on a two-state solution, with a mention of the 1967 borders and Security Council resolutions.
