Two months after the Assad Regime collapsed and rebels led by Ahmed al-Sharaa installed themselves in Damascus, the character of the new Syrian Regime is not yet clear.

Although its jihadi terrorist origins are undeniable – due to its evolving make-up, and perhaps some wishful thinking – Arab and Western governments tend to give it the benefit of the doubt. Is this positive and prudent? Or should caution and the application of more stringent conditions apply to the new rulers of Syria – as their positions on several domestic and foreign matters remain far from reassuring?
