Egypt offers Gaza electricity in exchange for intelligence

Egypt has reportedly offered to supply the Gaza Strip with electricity in order to ease the deteriorating crisis. In exchange, Egypt has demanded of Hamas to extradite suspected terrorists and to provide information about the organization’s smuggling tunnels that it operates in the border area. According to the London-based Asharq al-Awsat daily, it is the course of a recent visit by Hamas’s leader Yahya Sinwar, Cairo presented him with a proposal that would also ease restrictions on the activity of Gaza’s border crossing with Egypt and would provide additional humanitarian aid to the Hamas-run territory. That said, Cairo insists that the condition for providing the Palestinian enclave with the easing of restrictions would only be made possible if Hamas would meet their security-related demands.
