Former IDF Chief of Staff: Handling of Hebron shooting incident “incorrect”

Former IDF Chief of Staff Benny Gantz said he believes the handling of a shooting incident in the West Bank city of Hebron, in which a Palestinian assailant that attacked Israeli soldiers with a knife before being neutralized by troops was later shot and killed by a soldier on his own accord, has been incorrect and said the ongoing wave of violence was not a reality show or a platform for political arguments.

The former top Israeli military commander stressed the sensitivity and complexity of the matter and noted, to the sound of applause from a crowd during a scholarship granting ceremony, that he supports the soldiers that choose to serve the state of Israel and emphasized that he trusts the IDF’s command-echelon over the soldiers know how to perform their job professionally and without political bias.
