Hezbollah leader calls UN “weak” after it denounces an anti-Israeli report

The leader of the Iranian-backed Hezbollah movement denounced the United Nations as weak, after the withdrawal of the anti-Israel report. Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah, who heads an internationally recognized terror organization that aims to destroy the state of Israel and seeks to expel all Jews from what he defines as Muslim lands, said in a televised speech to his followers that the incident served as a reminder that the United Nations is “incapable of taking a stand” and that it could not be counted on, when it comes to taking over – what he defined as – the occupied lands of Palestine, Lebanon or the Golan Heights, nor could it be counted on “to defend human rights” in the region.

“We cannot count on this organization, nor on its decisions, to bring back our occupied land in Palestine or Lebanon or Golan Heights, to free the detainees from prisons, to defend human rights in our region, to protect the mother, the child, the culture and the civilization throughout all the institutions that belong to the United Nations. They cannot do that. This event emphasizes and witnesses that,” said Nasrallah.

The growing rhetoric by Hezbollah Secretary General Hassan Nasrallah comes as tensions are escalating on Israel’s northern front, after the Israeli air-force conducted several airstrikes against both the Syrian military and the Lebanese Hezbollah over the weekend. The first air strike was conducted early Friday morning, when Israeli fighter-jets targeted a weapon shipment on its way to Hezbollah in Syrian territory. In response, the Syrian military launched anti-aircraft missiles at the Israeli planes, which forced Israel to use its ‘Arrow’ anti-missile-defense-system for the first time in history. In an unprecedented move, Israel then publicly admitted to attacking targets in Syria, and claimed the use of its anti-missile system to be successful. The Israeli claim of responsibility, however, brought Moscow into the picture, when it summoned Israel’s Ambassador to Russia, Gary Koren, to answer questions over the attack. During Koren’s meeting with Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov, Moscow sent a clear message to Jerusalem, emphasizing Russia’s anger over the attack on its allies in Syria. According to a report, which TV7 was not able to verify, Russia warned Israel that if it would continue its strikes in its northern neighbor, “thing will escalate.”
