IDF captures infiltrator from IS territory in Syria

An IDF force captured a man who crossed the Syrian border fence into Israel. The man, who entered Israel from a region in Syria currently controlled by an organization linked to the Islamic State, was taken for interrogation by Israel’s security services. The IDF also launched an investigation into the incident, as it is yet unclear how the Syrian managed to cross the border without being detected before approaching the newly established security fence, considering the fact that there is a dead-zone of a few hundred meters that is monitored by advanced ‘combat-intelligence-collection systems’, as well as infantry and tank units. The investigation will also examine whether the Syrian infiltrator was sent by the Shuhada al-Yarmouk organization, which is affiliated with the Islamic State, to test Israel’s defensive capabilities, considering the fact that the organization is with its back against the wall in its fight against both Western-backed rebels on one front, and government forces on another.
