Syrian army’s advances deeper into IS-held southern Damascus

The Syrian military continues to make gains across its war-torn-country. The Syrian Defense Ministry released footage that shows its forces advancing in al-Hafar al-Aswad, an area of southern Damascus. The two last strongholds in southern Damascus, include Al-Hafar al-Aswad, which is currently controlled by the Islamic State, as well as Yarmouk, which is a Palestinian refugee camp. Nevertheless, after the Syrian government forces, together with their allies, continue to conduct intense bombardments, thousands of Islamist militants have agreed to leave those areas, after reaching a deal with Assad’s regime. Syrian sources told TV7 that once the two areas south of Damascus are taken, the Syrian army will turn its attention to the rebel held territories in the northwest and southwest of the country, along Syria’s international frontiers with Turkey in the north, and Israel in the south.
