Heavy clashes between government forces and the al-Qaeda linked Jabhat Fattah al-Sham, formerly known as the Nusra Front, were recorded on the Syrian side of the Golan Heights. The clashes resulted in errant fire, which exploded in an open area on Israel’s side of the border, causing no injuries or damage. Nevertheless, the Israeli Air Force conducted an air strike against a Syrian military position, near the border-torn of Quneitra. According to the Syrian army, a cannon was destroyed as part of the Israeli attack. The Syrian military accused Israel of attempting to boost the morale of the terrorists battling against the forces of Bashar Assad, while stressing that the Syrian army will continue with resolve to battle against the “terrorist” groups, which it said are the tools of Israel. An Israeli Military official told TV7 that Israel views the Syrian government as solely responsible for any attacks emanating from its territory, and will respond with force to any violations of Israeli sovereignty.
