Egypt denies plans for a Palestinian state in Sinai

The Egyptian Foreign Ministry has denied a statement made by Israeli Minister Ayoob Kara, who tweeted that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu would discuss with President Donald Trump a proposal, ostensibly made by Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, to establish a Palestinian state on the territory of the Gaza Strip and Egypt’s lawless Sinai Peninsula. The Foreign Ministry in Cairo rejected the statement as rumors that are being disseminated by an Israeli media outlet, and added that it was reported in the past that the ousted Egyptian President, Mohamed Morsi, had proposed to establish a Palestinian state in Sinai, an idea that had never been discussed, since no one had agreed to it, either in Egypt, among the Palestinians or throughout the entire Arab world.
