Iran vows to continue standing by Syria’s side

The Iranian Parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Commission chief praised the Syrian army for its gains in and around Aleppo and said the Islamic Republic of Iran would continue to stand by Syria’s side. “The victories gained by the Syrian Army especially in Aleppo are a sign of the biggest victory,” Iran’s National Security and Foreign Policy Commission Chief Alaeddin Boroujerdi said.

Boroujerdi, who visits Damascus after visiting Lebanon’s Capital Beirut, declared Iran will continue to stand by “the heroic people of Syria,” as he put it, and will continue to actively support Syria in its “war against terrorism.” “Because Syrian people stand on the first line of resistance, we stand by this heroic people and support it. We also stand by Syria’s side in its war against terrorism where tens of countries gathered. We came here to announce our support for Syria,” Boroujerdi said.

His visit to Damascus comes three days after UN Special Envoy to Syria Staffan de Mistura visited the Islamic Republic of Iran to discuss the bloody Syria crisis, which has claimed more than half a million people, and the possibility of resuming peace talks in Geneva during the course of this month.
