Iranian military aircraft crashes killing 15 air-servicemen

The semi-official Farsi news agency reported this morning that an Iranian military cargo-plane had crashed in the country’s central Alborz province, claiming the lives of 15 out of the 16 air-servicemen. According to the report, the military aircraft went down near Fath airport, located next the city of Karaj. According to an initial investigation, the plane crash-landed after “mistaking the airport with another airfield because of bad weather conditions.” It is important to note that the Iranian air force is currently holding a massive military exercise in the central region. According to the official IRNA news agency, the annual war games – dubbed “Defenders of Velayat Skies – began last week on Thursday and combines all bases across the country. An Iranian military expert told TV7 that the timing of the exercise is perceived as an attempted-effort to deter any potential attack by Israel or the United States.
