Netanyahu-Obama scheduled meeting: aid-package, Israeli-Palestinian conflict

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is scheduled to meet with the American president for a particularly charged meeting, almost one year since their last meeting in November 2015. Before leaving Israel, Netanyahu said he will personally thank the American President for approving the 38-billion-dollar aid package to the Jewish state, which will assure Israel’s military qualitative edge in the chaotic Middle East.

“We are in the midst of a very important diplomatic week for the State of Israel. I am leaving now for the United States. There I will first meet with President Obama and I will thank him for the great and important security assistance to the State of Israel over the coming decade,” said the Jewish leader

A White House statement revealed that the two leaders will also discuss the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and ways of jumpstarting the long-stalled peace process, in the midst of Egyptian, French and Russian initiatives. Administration officials however relayed messages to Israel in the last few days, saying that President Obama does not intend to dictate a plan to Israel and the Palestinians, a move Israeli officials said was meant to safeguard the democratic Presidential candidate’s position with Jewish voters in Florida.
