President Trump won’t renew aid to Palestinians unless they make peace with Israel

U.S. President Donald Trump emphasized that his Administration would not renew the transfer of funds to the Palestinians until they agree to return to the negotiating table with Israel, to end the decades-long Middle East conflict. In a 25-minute conference call, which President Trump held with Jewish leaders ahead of the new year festival of Rosh Hashanah, he underlined Washington’s will to financially assist the Palestinian people, conditional on their leadership’s will to advance a peace agreement with the Jewish state. President Trump’s statement came just a week after he decided to halt any financial aid to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency, UNRWA, which the United States and Israel have accused of deliberately bloating the number of Palestinian refugees. Furthermore, the Trump administration accused UNRWA’s operational-business model as unsustainable, given its “endlessly and exponentially expanding community of entitled beneficiaries.”
