World marks San Remo Conference Centenary

As part of commemoration of 100 years since the San Remo Conference, the European Coalition for Israel held a broadcast to highlight ‘a pivotal pillar for the establishment of a Jewish State in its ancestral homeland.’

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was among others to participate in the pro-Israel lobbying group’s event. During his address from Jerusalem, Netanyahu said that “The centennial anniversary of the San Remo Conference is a chance to celebrate a seminal moment in the history of Zionism.”

“In San Remo, the victorious allied powers of world war one recognized the Jewish peoples right of self-determination,” he continued. “Those powers ratified and pledged to implement the Balfour Declaration. Three years earlier, British Foreign Minister Lord Arthur Balfour, speaking on behalf of his government, had called for the establishment in Palestine of a National Home for the Jewish people,” he said.

“Now in ratifying that historic declaration, San Remo recognized a fundamental truth, the Jewish people are not foreign colonialists in the land of our forefathers,” said Prime Minister Netanyahu, emphasizing that “The land of Israel is our ancestral homeland.”

Amid international condemnation of Israel’s possible annexation of the West Bank – predetermined by many countries around the world as earmarked for a future Palestinian state, the Israeli leader also used the occasion to reveal that Jerusalem may indeed soon assert sovereignty over parts of the territory in accordance with the United States peace initiative. “Three months ago, the Trump peace plan recognized Israel’s rights in all of Judea and Samaria. And, President Trump pledged to recognize Israel’s sovereignty over the Jewish communities there and in the Jordan Valley,” said Prime Minster Netanyahu.”

After expressing confidence that Washington will honor its promise, Netanyahu vowed that another monumental “moment in the history of Zionism” will be able to be celebrated in the coming months.
