The European Union announced that it has made a contribution of 20 million Euros to the Palestinian Authority, with the designated aim of paying the October salaries of some 55,000 Palestinian civil servants and pensioners in the West Bank. The office of the European Union Representative to the Palestinians said in a statement that ” This contribution is funded by the European Union as part of its Direct Financial Support to the Palestinian Authority.” According to the statement, the EU’s financial aid to the Palestinians, aims – among others – to help prepare the Palestinian Authority for statehood. It further revealed that regular EU financial donations to the Palestinians in the past ten years amount to some 2.5 billion Euros.
