Netanyahu lashes out at Obama, blames US Administration for UN resolution 2334

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu levelled harsh accusations at US President Barack Obama, during a meeting in Jerusalem with leaders of the powerful American-Jewish lobby, AIPAC, asserting that the Obama Administration was behind the UN Security Council resolution 2334, which was passed on the 23rd of December and defined all Israeli construction on lands captured after the 1967 Middle East war as illegal – including the West Bank and East Jerusalem.

Prime Minister Netanyahu pointed to the fact that the decision by Washington not to veto the resolution in the Security Council has brought about a change of policy by the Obama Administration, comparing to preceding Administrations, in which disputed territories are now defined by the United States as illegal. Netanyahu also noted that it also changes the decades old policy that was adopted by Washington, in which only through direct negotiations can the decades-old conflict be resolved between Israel and the Palestinians.

The Israeli leader said that he was concerned that the new policy would bring about more of the same resolutions against the Jewish state, while urging the Jewish lobby in Washington and friends of Israel around the world to act against unfair resolutions against the only democracy in the Middle East.
