Turkey says it captured terrorist responsible for NYE attack

Police said they have captured the gunman, who killed 39 people in an Istanbul nightclub on New Year’s Day, after a two-week manhunt, seizing the terrorist with four other suspects at a hideout in an outlying suburb of the city. Istanbul Governor Vasip Sahin said the suspect admitted his guilt and named the terrorist as Abdulgadir Masharipov from Uzbekistan who received training in Afghanistan.
“His name is Abdulgadir Masharipov. His cover name is Abu Muhammed Horasani Abdulkavi. He was born in Uzbekistan in 1983. He was trained in Afghanistan. He is a well-educated terrorist who speaks four languages.” / “The terrorist admitted his crime. His fingerprints matched those in the investigation,” said Sahin, who further added that the terrorist entered Turkey illegally and was affiliated to the Islamic State.
