“We are aware of reports regarding a killed Palestinian female. The incident is under review,” said a statement issued by the IDF, in response to a report from the Palestinian Health Ministry that a 16-year-old Palestinian was killed during a firefight in Jenin.

During counterterrorism activity by IDF, Israel Security Agency (ISA, Shin Bet) and Border Police Special Operations Units as part of Operation Waves Breaker, three wanted men were apprehended in in the flashpoint West Bank city. “The soldiers responded with live fire towards the armed suspects,” said the IDF, after they were targeted by heavy gunfire and hurled explosives.

No injuries were reported among the Israeli security forces, who “will continue to thwart terrorism wherever it is required while continuing its efforts to avoid harming non-combatants,” stated the IDF.

Both the Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) and Islamist Hamas terror groups operate openly in Jenin, which along with the nearby city of Nablus, has been at the center of much of the violence in the West Bank this year.

Twenty-one other suspected terrorists were captured in extensive anti-terror operational activity over the weekend.

Operation Waves Breaker, was launched after the emergence of a deadly surge of attacks against Israelis that has killed 31 people since the start of 2022.
